Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
If you're wondering about pelvic floor PT, it's a specialized form of therapy aimed at addressing issues related to the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor itself is a series of muscles that form a hammock or basket at the base of your pelvis and provide support to your bladder, intestines, and reproductive organs. When not functioning properly, it can lead to various concerns, such as incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, and sexual dysfunction.

Most often, people relate pelvic floor PT with postpartum recovery but the buck doesn't stop there. Outside of the perinatal realm, pelvic floor physical therapy can help with incontinence (control of bladder and bowel function- for my CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting folks think peeing or leaking when you're doing double unders, box jumps, or catching a heavy clean), pain anywhere within the pelvic region, prolapse (think bulging or "falling out" sensations), and sexual dysfunction (pain or discomfort during sex).
If you are someone who is pregnant and wants to stay active (which is great and encouraged and constantly being researched by PTs and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) we will come along side you to help develop a plan to keep you going and guide modifications to your fitness as your body changes throughout pregnancy. We will also help with aches and pains along the way. Think back and hip pain, symphysis pubis dysfunction, "lightning crotch", and sciatica among other things. Once baby is here we will help with your path back to your active lifestyle. Many people think they should "just wait until the baby is here" to start working on pelvic floor and back pain things but the truth is the earlier you get started, the better! Visits can start as early as you'd like and postpartum visits as soon as 4 weeks after delivery.
The goal is to improve function, reduce pain, and enhance the overall quality of life by helping you better understand and manage your pelvic floor health.
